Tambour Backer
Tambour backers provide a tough, flexible base for tambour doors like those used on roll-top desks and some cabinetry. Neenah Paper Technical Products latex saturated paper backers can effectively replace fabric backers in many applications, and they are generally less expensive and easier to use.
Neenah Paper Technical Products Tambour backers are engineered to deliver excellent performance. They are strong and tough, yet extremely flexible, with excellent fold endurance necessary to provide years of endurance. They also offer uniform thickness, important since the finished product frequently acquires its tambour appearance with a cutter which "V" grooves the face of the laminated material. Backer uniformity is required to ensure that this cut does not penetrate through the backer.
Flexible, Heavy Weight Backers Provide Necessary Durability
Products recommended for these applications are typically heavy weight, in the 17 to 22 mil range, and highly flexible. Neenah Paper Technical Products products most commonly recommended are Type S-90904 (black) and Type S-90913 (beige). Other colors are available if required.
Adhesive Recommendations
Tambour materials are generally applied to the face materials using cold glue adhesives, such as polyvinyl acetates. They may also be applied with heat-activated thermoplastic adhesives which can be used during lamination or can be purchased as a component of the Neenah Paper Technical Products backing. In many applications, customer-applied glue lines are the most economical.
