In 2005, worldwide demand for hardwood market pulp was estimated to be approximately 18 million metric tons of which an estimated 1.7 million metric tons were northern bleached hardwood kraft pulp produced in Canada. Neenah Paper’s Pictou mill in Canada produces hardwood and softwood bleached kraft pulp for use in making a variety of paper products.

The Pictou mill has the capability to manufacture both softwood and hardwood pulp and various blends of each. This flexibility allows pulp production with specific characteristics to meet the individual demands of customers. The mill’s two major products are Pictou HARMONY® Softwood (northern bleached softwood kraft pulp) and Pictou Hardwood (northern bleached hardwood maple kraft pulp). Pictou’s operations are also able to selectively harvest and sell individual high-grade logs to meet the specific needs of manufacturers of specialty wood products. Its strategic location provides the mill with the ability to service customers in Europe or eastern North America.
